About Us

House it SoCal is a team of faculty members and students from California State University, Long Beach, researching the housing experiences of vulnerable populations in Southern California.

Founded in 2018, our latest projects have focused on the housing instability of millennial and Gen-Z immigrants and the experiences of low-income older adults in government subsidized housing. Utilizing a community-engaged and student-led methodology, we focus on collaborating with community organizations to select and examine the topic of study together.  University students are trained to lead the project as part of a pedagogical approach for teaching about data collection, offering students hands-on experience in research, advocacy, and overall professional development.
